Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir have publicly demanded that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu take decisive action against international moves toward recognizing a Palestinian state. Smotrich criticized Netanyahu's lack of response following recent recognitions by several countries, calling it a 'diplomatic disgrace' and urging a clear rejection of Palestinian statehood. Ben-Gvir dismissed the concept of a Palestinian people and warned that his party would not remain in any government that supports such a state, advocating instead for policies that would encourage voluntary migration from Gaza.
Senior security officials have recommended imposing personal and economic sanctions on Palestinian Authority leaders, including restricting their movement and targeting their business interests. Despite these recommendations, Netanyahu has yet to act. Meanwhile, a draft proposal from the United States for the United Nations Security Council outlines steps toward establishing a Palestinian state, including the deployment of a multinational force in Gaza and the creation of a Palestinian police force, contingent on reforms and dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians.
