The Civil Administration has initiated the temporary expropriation of approximately 1,800,000 square meters surrounding the ancient site of Sebastia in Samaria. This action is intended to facilitate expanded archaeological excavations, restoration efforts, and the development of new infrastructure as part of a major heritage preservation project. The expropriated land, located in Area C, will be managed by the local Archaeology Unit after authorities cited neglect and damage by previous landowners and local authorities. The project, led by the Heritage Ministry with significant investment, aims to upgrade access, restore historical artifacts, and further explore the site's rich layers, which include remains from the Israelite and Roman periods. Ongoing work at Sebastia includes exposing new sections of ancient streets and restoring stone pavements, with officials emphasizing the importance of protecting and making the site accessible for future generations.
