Greater Manchester Police have been granted additional time to question a 31-year-old man arrested in connection with the deadly attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Synagogue. The suspect can now be held in custody until Thursday as investigations continue into the incident that left two worshippers dead and several others injured. The attack occurred during the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur, when Jihad al Shamie drove his car into worshippers and assaulted others with a knife before being fatally shot by armed officers.
The victims, Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby, were remembered for their bravery, with Daulby described as a 'quiet hero' for blocking the synagogue doors. Inquests into their deaths have been postponed until February next year, while three other men were treated for serious injuries. Authorities have confirmed that no police misconduct was found in the response to the attack.
Police continue to appeal for information as the investigation progresses, keeping the families of those affected informed of developments.
