Minister of Aliyah and Integration Ofir Sofer has outlined his approach to the recruitment of haredim into the army, emphasizing a gradual process built on trust and cooperation rather than punitive measures. In an interview, Sofer stated that bringing in 2,400 haredi soldiers would be a significant trust-building step, and stressed the importance of genuine integration over imposing sanctions.
He highlighted the value of partnership with haredi factions, noting that while political alliances are important, it is also crucial to address key issues such as easing the burden on the military. Sofer expressed hope that a practical solution could be reached before the next elections, aiming for a joint statement and tangible progress in recruitment.
Additionally, Sofer commented on the appointment of Major General Roman Gofman as head of the Mossad, praising his qualifications and achievements, though expressing some regret that Gofman would not become Chief of Staff.
