Recent research from Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health, led by Professor Frank Hu, highlights coffee as a key source of antioxidants in Western diets. Large-scale studies have found that drinking coffee in moderation is associated with a lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and Parkinson's disease.
Further support for coffee's health benefits comes from the world's so-called Blue Zones, where people tend to live longer and healthier lives. On the Greek island of Ikaria, boiled Greek coffee, which is high in polyphenols, is credited with promoting longevity by improving blood vessel elasticity and reducing inflammation.
