Berlin prosecutors have charged a member of Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany party with performing a Nazi salute inside the parliament building. The lawmaker, identified as Matthias Moosdorf, allegedly greeted a colleague with the banned gesture at the Reichstag's east entrance in June 2023. Such gestures are illegal in Germany and can lead to imprisonment. Moosdorf, who lost his parliamentary immunity in October, denies the accusation. The party has faced criticism for controversial statements about Germany's Nazi past and is preparing for upcoming elections in regions where it has strong support.
