Walid Saadaoui, originally from Tunisia, had built a life in the United Kingdom after marrying an English woman and working in various hospitality roles before purchasing a restaurant. Following personal changes and a move to Greater Manchester, Saadaoui withdrew large sums of money and recruited Amar Hussein to assist in his plans. Hussein, who worked at a furniture shop in Bolton, denied involvement and claimed the undercover officer's account was fabricated, while his legal defense argued that strong views on international conflicts did not equate to terrorism.
