Prof. Uzi Rabi, a senior researcher at the Dayan Center for Middle East Studies, emphasized the strategic importance of recognizing Somaliland, describing it as a key emerging ally for Israel in the Horn of Africa. He highlighted Somaliland's significant size and its desire to pursue a western-oriented path, drawing parallels to Azerbaijan's geopolitical shift. Rabi dismissed concerns over international condemnation, suggesting that the United States supports the mutual recognition process and noting the region's relevance to efforts against the Houthis and access to vital waterways.
Rabi also addressed the current situation in Iran, pointing to severe internal challenges such as poverty, collapsing infrastructure, and widespread rationing. He argued that Iran's public displays of military capability are intended to compensate for its inability to make real progress on its nuclear ambitions, serving more as a demonstration of persistence than actual strength.
