The defence ministry in New Delhi has given preliminary approval to a range of military modernization projects valued at over Rs 79,000 crore. Key decisions include the lease of two additional high-altitude long endurance drones for the Navy, the acquisition of a large number of missiles for the medium range surface-to-air missile system, and the purchase of six mid-air refuelling aircraft to extend the operational reach of fighter jets. The ministry also approved projects to extend the range of indigenous air-to-air missiles and guided rockets, as well as the procurement of kamikaze drones and advanced counter-drone systems. Additional upgrades and acquisitions include overhauls of helicopters and tanks, new radars, naval tugs, simulators, and secure communication equipment, reflecting a broad push to enhance India's defence capabilities.
