Attorneys for Robert Bowers, convicted for the deadly shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, have filed a comprehensive appeal seeking a new sentencing phase. The motion, submitted to the Third Circuit Court, raises concerns about jury selection, alleging improper exclusion of potential jurors based on race, ethnicity, and religion, as well as the inclusion of a juror with experience in death penalty cases abroad. The appeal also challenges the decision to shackle Bowers during the trial, arguing it unfairly influenced the jury. Bowers' legal team cites both technical legal issues and procedural errors, claiming insufficient time to address objections and highlighting the impact of security measures on the trial's fairness. Federal prosecutors have 90 days to respond to the appeal, which comes after Judge Robert Colville dismissed an earlier attempt to overturn the death sentence.
