My dad tortured me to 'eliminate weakness'. Now I'm a therapist.

Maude Julien endured a harrowing childhood in northern France, where her father, Louis Didier, subjected her to years of psychological and physical torture in a bid to create a 'superhuman' child. Isolated from the outside world, Maude was forced to undergo cruel endurance tests, deprived of affection, and punished for any sign of weakness. Her mother, Jeannine, also failed to protect her, turning a blind eye to abuse and neglect.

Despite mastering multiple musical instruments and surviving relentless control, Maude struggled to adapt to life beyond her father's grip when she finally escaped as a young adult. She faced challenges in learning basic social skills and rebuilding her sense of self. Through therapy and determination, Maude transformed her trauma into resilience, eventually becoming a psychotherapist specialising in trauma and psychological control.

Maude's memoir, 'The Only Girl in the World', recounts her journey from captivity to hope, offering insight into the dynamics of family cults and the enduring impact of childhood abuse. She now advocates for healing and insists her story is ultimately one of survival and hope.
