Shin Bet Director David Zini's proposal to use electronic ankle cuffs to restrict certain Jewish extremists from entering the West Bank remains under consideration, though its implementation has stalled since being presented to the security cabinet in November. The idea emerged after a violent attack by Jewish extremists on a Palestinian village, which drew rare condemnation from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials. While the Attorney-General has already approved the use of ankle cuffs, operational and political complexities, as well as the need for new legislation, have delayed their deployment. The government is also weighing whether increased police action against Jewish extremist violence may make such measures unnecessary, but the option remains open as authorities navigate legal and practical challenges.
