Lawmakers in Jerusalem convened to address concerns over the treatment of Israelis of Ethiopian descent by police, following years of reported harassment and discrimination. At the session, members of the community and their parents shared emotional testimonies of police violence and trauma, including accounts of children and young adults being detained, beaten, and threatened. Committee chair Michael Biton and MK Pnina Tamano-Shata called for greater accountability and action from law enforcement, highlighting the lack of progress and ongoing fear within the community.

Police representatives responded by citing recent initiatives aimed at improving relations, such as dedicated officers and efforts to expunge criminal records, but denied the extent of the problem described. Tensions rose as Tamano-Shata criticized the police for failing to engage meaningfully and for not meeting with community leaders. The meeting ended without a formal resolution, but lawmakers agreed to continue discussions in future sessions.
