US Vice President JD Vance stated that Venezuela will only be permitted to sell oil if it aligns with the interests of the United States. Vance emphasized that the US now controls Venezuela's energy resources and will dictate the terms under which oil can be sold. President Trump added that Venezuela has agreed to purchase only American-made products with proceeds from a new oil deal, positioning the US as Venezuela's principal business partner.
Negotiations are underway for US oil producer Chevron to expand its license to operate in Venezuela, potentially increasing crude exports to American refineries. Other US companies, including Valero Energy, Exxon Mobil, and ConocoPhillips, may also become involved in Venezuelan oil exports as discussions progress. Venezuela's state oil company confirmed ongoing talks with the US for commercial oil export agreements.
