Malaysia has temporarily blocked access to Grok, the generative artificial intelligence chatbot developed by the firm led by Elon Musk, after concerns arose over its ability to create and publish sexualised images. The move follows similar actions by other countries, including Indonesia, as global backlash intensifies against the chatbot's misuse, particularly in generating non-consensual and explicit content involving women and minors. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission cited repeated misuse and insufficient safeguards from the developers, noting that responses from the companies relied mainly on user reporting rather than robust technical solutions. Access to Grok will remain restricted in Malaysia until effective moderation and technical safeguards are implemented, reflecting the country's strict stance on online content and its ongoing scrutiny of internet platforms.
