Chief Constable Craig Guildford of West Midlands Police has come under scrutiny after admitting that artificial intelligence generated fake information used in advice that led to Maccabi Tel Aviv fans being banned from attending a football match against Aston Villa. The decision was made by Birmingham's Safety Advisory Group, based on advice referencing a non-existent match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and West Ham. Guildford initially stated the information was sourced from social media and internet searches, but later clarified in a letter to the Home Affairs Select Committee that it originated from Microsoft's Copilot artificial intelligence tool. The incident has raised concerns about the reliability of information used in public safety decisions.
