The number of women serving in combat roles has reached unprecedented levels, with about 8,500 women participating in frontline fighting in 2025. This marks a significant increase compared to previous years, more than doubling the figure from 2020 and nearly ten times higher than in 2013. Over the past year alone, approximately 5,000 women enlisted as combat soldiers, reflecting a tenfold rise over the past decade.
This trend is evident not only in active-duty positions but also within the broader combat force and reserves. Women's share of the overall combat force has grown from 13.7 percent to about 20 percent over the last ten years. In the reserves, the proportion of women has surged from around 3 percent in 2006 to about 20 percent during the current conflict, signaling a deep structural shift amid ongoing operational demands.
