Netanya is set to hold a special mayoral election following the passing of longtime mayor Miriam Feirberg-Ikar, who led the city for 27 years and was widely praised for her dedication to public service and urban development. The election will take place on Tuesday, with over 218,000 eligible voters expected to cast their ballots at 343 polling stations across the city. Four main candidates are vying for the position: Tali Molnar, Avi Salma, Yossi Biton, and Amos Mahlof, each presenting distinct visions for Netanya's future, focusing on issues such as education, urban renewal, public safety, and cultural development.
Tali Molnar, who has served as deputy and acting mayor, emphasizes transparency, efficient management, and vibrant city life, while Avi Salma prioritizes education and systematic planning with support from local religious leaders. Yossi Biton highlights his long-standing public service and aims to empower education and strengthen community ties. Amos Mahlof focuses on bridging educational gaps, affordable housing, and community-oriented leadership. With no clear frontrunner after Feirberg-Ikar's passing, the election is expected to shape Netanya's direction for years to come.
