Teva Israel, in coordination with the Health Ministry, has issued a precautionary recall of Nutrilon AR baby formula after laboratory tests revealed elevated levels of the toxin cereulide. The affected products include 400-gram and 900-gram packages from batch number 2026.12.01, with an expiration date of 01.12.2026. Parents are advised to immediately stop using formula from this batch and switch to alternatives, even if the package has been partially used. While no unusual health issues have been reported in Israel so far, the recall follows updated safety thresholds set in Ireland and similar actions taken globally due to a production issue with a raw material used in baby formulas.
Cereulide is a heat-resistant toxin produced by certain bacteria and cannot be neutralized by boiling or sterilization. Symptoms of exposure in infants may include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and signs of dehydration, typically appearing within hours of consumption. Most cases resolve within a day, but severe or persistent symptoms require prompt medical attention. The Health Ministry emphasizes that the recall is a preventive measure and continues to monitor the situation, with further updates expected as investigations progress.
