Yona Elfassi, a Jewish native of Fez, Morocco, has launched a movement to revive the Moroccan Arabic dialect, Darija, among Jews of Moroccan heritage around the world. Through his Limud Darija program, Elfassi connects diaspora Jews with their ancestral language and culture, offering hybrid language courses and music workshops that draw on the rich traditions of Moroccan Jewry. The initiative has also fostered unexpected connections between Moroccan Jews and Muslims, with participants from both communities learning each other's languages and sharing their cultural heritage. Supporters and participants say the program is helping to bridge divides, foster understanding, and build peace on a personal level through shared stories, music, and language.
