New satellite images show dozens of fires burning across the tourist city of Puerto Vallarta on the same day Mexican authorities captured and killed cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho'. The violence is part of a wider outbreak that has spread to multiple areas following his death in custody.

Shops were set ablaze, roadblocks were erected and at least 25 members of the National Guard were killed, prompting the deployment of nearly 10,000 soldiers to restore order. Authorities are working to contain the unrest as tensions remain high in several regions.

Separately, attention has turned to the arrival of the aircraft carrier Gerald R Ford in Greece amid a buildup of United States military assets in the Middle East and Mediterranean. Reports of plumbing problems aboard the vessel have circulated, alongside recycled social media videos falsely suggesting new incidents.

Fact checkers are also reviewing claims about the United Kingdom student finance system and youth unemployment, and preparing to examine statements expected in Donald Trump's upcoming State of the Union address.
