The 20.6 kilometre Chennai Port to Maduravoyal corridor is set to significantly reduce travel time for cargo vehicles and ease chronic traffic congestion across key stretches of the city. The elevated roadway will provide direct connectivity between the port and the national highway network, allowing freight traffic to bypass busy urban roads.
Officials said the project is expected to streamline the movement of containers, improve logistics efficiency, and cut fuel consumption caused by long delays. By diverting heavy vehicles away from arterial roads, the corridor will also improve daily commuting conditions for residents.
Once operational, the infrastructure upgrade is anticipated to strengthen trade operations at the port while enhancing overall road safety and reducing pollution levels in densely populated areas along the existing freight routes.
