Harrison Bader is already making a strong impression in spring training with San Francisco, highlighted by a towering home run that dented a food truck beyond the outfield wall in Phoenix. The newly signed center fielder has been one of the most active players in camp, appearing in nearly every exhibition game as he prepares to leave for international competition with Team Israel. He even signed the dented truck with a playful apology after the game.
Bader, who agreed to a two-year contract worth $20.5 million, believes the Giants’ outfield defense will improve significantly after ranking last in the National League a season ago. He has quickly taken on a vocal leadership role, emphasizing preparation, communication and confidence. With Jung Hoo Lee shifting from center to right field and Heliot Ramos also factoring into the mix, Bader sees the group’s athleticism and commitment as key to turning defense into a strength.
Lee has embraced the move to right field, acknowledging he could have performed better defensively in center last year. He has looked sharp offensively this spring and will soon depart to represent South Korea in international play, where he will serve as team captain. Both Bader and Lee head into the tournament in good form, giving the Giants optimism that their revamped outfield will be more cohesive and impactful when the regular season begins.
