A Knesset committee convened on the two year anniversary of the disappearance of Haymanut Kasau, who was nine years old when she vanished near an absorption center in Safed on February 25, 2024. During the meeting, her father pleaded for the Israel Security Agency to take over the investigation, saying that the family’s 'tears have run dry' and that their hearts are bleeding after two years without answers.
Lawmakers said a special investigative team within a senior national police unit was recently formed to focus solely on the case, and representatives of the Israel Security Agency participated in a closed session to receive updates. Committee members stressed that time is critical and pledged to continue pressing for greater involvement and accountability. Kasau’s mother tearfully asked for help so the family could celebrate her upcoming bat mitzvah together.
The Ministry of Aliyah and Integration faced criticism for limited public awareness efforts but announced that a new campaign would soon launch with significant funding. Nearly two years after the disappearance, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had promised personal involvement following a January meeting with the family, though no public update was issued on the anniversary date.
