Argentina President Javier Milei is expected to be invited to light a torch at the Mount Herzl ceremony on the eve of Israel's Independence Day, in recognition of what officials describe as his unique contribution to the Jewish people and the State of Israel. Transportation Minister Miri Regev, who oversees national ceremonies, plans to propose the gesture during his anticipated visit, though it would require a government decision to amend existing ceremony regulations.

Milei has positioned himself as a strong supporter of Israel. During his election campaign, he pledged to move Argentina's embassy to Jerusalem, described Argentina as a future close ally of Israel, and said he would prioritize relations with Israel and the United States. He was also seen waving the Israeli flag at a rally opposing the militant group Hamas.

His first presidential trip was to Israel, where he visited the Western Wall shortly after landing. In February 2025, he declared two days of national mourning in Argentina following the return of the bodies of members of the Bibas family who were killed by Hamas, including two young children.
