Police have released an image of a rare walking boot as they continue efforts to identify a woman whose body was found around five miles west of the island of Iona on 23 September 2025. Forensic analysis carried out in Scotland, the United Kingdom and Europe has so far failed to establish her identity.
Investigators believe the woman had been in the water for four to six weeks before she was discovered. Her death is being treated as unexplained but is not considered suspicious. She was described as white, about 6 feet tall, aged between 45 and 60, of medium build, with no tattoos or obvious surgical scars.
When recovered, she was wearing black walking trousers and size 8.5 Meindl walking boots. The German brand boots were sold by only two retailers in the United Kingdom and have since been discontinued. Police are now liaising with countries outside Europe, including Canada and the Faroe Isles, in the hope that the distinctive footwear may help identify her and return her to her family.
