Flights between the United Kingdom and the Middle East have been cancelled and disrupted after the United States launched major military strikes against Iran. Missile attacks have hit several Iranian cities, while retaliatory strikes have targeted American military bases in Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, as well as sites in Israel. The British government has urged its citizens in affected countries to immediately shelter indoors and avoid all travel.
British Airways cancelled flights to Tel Aviv and Bahrain through 3 March, along with services to Amman, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Doha. Other airlines, including Wizz Air, also suspended routes to Tel Aviv. Airports such as London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Manchester reported cancellations and advised passengers to check with their airlines as disruption continues.
In the Gulf region, Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport suspended all operations as a precaution. Air raid sirens sounded in Dubai and explosions were reported, with debris causing damage near a hotel. Qatar also closed its airspace and halted flights at its main international airport after missile activity was reported near Doha.
