Air raid sirens sounded around 1:00 a.m. Monday in Haifa and nearby northern communities after three missiles were launched from Lebanon toward Israel. One missile was intercepted, while the other two landed in open areas. Emergency services reported no injuries.
The Israeli military said the launches were carried out by Hezbollah, marking the first such attack since a ceasefire in Lebanon took effect in November 2024. Israeli defense officials warned that there would be an especially harsh response to the attack.
The escalation follows recent regional tensions, including strikes by the United States and Israel in Iran over the weekend that resulted in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. A Hezbollah official had previously said the group would not intervene in limited United States strikes on Iran but described any attack on Iran's leader as a 'red line.'
