The Islamic Group in Lebanon said that its headquarters in the southern city of Sidon were destroyed in airstrikes carried out by the Israel Defense Forces. The Sunni organization, founded in 1964 and linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, said the building was hit without warning but had been evacuated in advance, preventing casualties. It declared that the attack would strengthen its resolve.
Regional media reported that the strike came amid intensified Israeli military activity in Sidon, including evacuation warnings tied to alleged Hezbollah infrastructure in the area. A spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces had earlier published a map urging residents near a specific building to move at least 300 meters away, citing plans to target Hezbollah military sites.
The Israel Defense Forces later said it had struck weapons depots, missile launchers, command centers and other infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah and Hamas in Tyre and Sidon, though it did not specifically mention the Islamic Group. The organization has previously been targeted in operations in Lebanon and Syria and was designated a terrorist organization by the administration of United States President Donald Trump, which imposed sanctions on it and its members.
