Iranian Kurdish militias have held discussions with the United States about a possible military operation targeting Iran's security forces in the country’s west, according to sources familiar with the talks. The groups, based along the Iran-Iraq border in Iraqi Kurdistan, have been training for a potential हमला aimed at weakening Tehran’s military amid ongoing United States and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets.
The proposed operation is intended to create space for internal unrest following the reported deaths of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other senior officials during the recent escalation. While no final decision has been made, the Kurdish groups have requested military and intelligence support from the United States, including assistance with weapons. Officials in Erbil and Baghdad have also been in contact with Washington.
Any cross-border operation would likely depend heavily on United States backing. Kurdish factions have previously cooperated with Washington during the Iraq War and in the fight against Islamic State militants, though their alliances have shifted over time. It remains unclear how effective the militias would be inside Iran or how regional powers such as Turkey and Pakistan might respond, given concerns about separatist movements and broader regional stability.
