United States President Donald Trump has urged Iraqi Kurdish leaders to side with Washington and Israel in a growing confrontation with Iran, according to a senior Kurdish official. During a call with Patriotic Union of Kurdistan leader Bafel Talabani, Trump reportedly said that the Kurds must choose between aligning with America and Israel or with Iran.
The request included allowing Iranian Kurdish opposition groups to organize within Iraq and ensuring they are not obstructed. Kurdish leaders were also asked to provide logistical support to these groups as part of broader efforts to counter Tehran.
The outreach places additional pressure on Iraq’s semi autonomous Kurdish region, which has long balanced relations between the United States, neighboring Iran, and other regional powers. The reported message underscores rising tensions and signals a push for clearer political alignment as regional rivalries intensify.
