A 10-member Indian junior boxing team was forced to withdraw from the Youth World Cup in Montenegro after failing to receive their stamped passports in time. The tournament was scheduled to take place in Budva from March 3 to 11.
Since Montenegro does not have an embassy in India, visa applications were processed through its embassy in the United Arab Emirates. Although the visas were approved and stamped, sudden political developments in West Asia delayed the return of the passports, preventing the team from traveling.
The passports had been submitted on February 20, and flight tickets were kept on standby in anticipation of timely clearance. Despite remaining in constant contact with Montenegrin authorities and India’s external affairs officials, the necessary documents did not arrive before departure, leading to the team’s absence from the competition.
