The United States and Israel have struck Iranian oil facilities for the first time since the war began, marking a significant escalation in the conflict. Tehran has responded defiantly, launching drones and missiles at neighbouring countries as tensions spread across the region. Lebanon is assessing the damage after Israel carried out extensive strikes on what it described as strongholds of the Iranian backed group Hezbollah.

Political tensions have also surfaced between allies. Donald Trump criticised British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, accusing him of joining a war that he claimed the United States had already won.

Elsewhere, a 35 year old former rapper appears poised to become Nepal’s next prime minister. In a separate development, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration reported success in its experiment to deflect an asteroid that could pose a future threat to Earth.
