The Jewish community in Budapest has mobilized to support Israelis stranded in Hungary due to the ongoing war. Rabbi Shmuel Raskin described how a local command center was quickly established to coordinate assistance, responding to numerous requests for housing, food, prescription medications, and other essential needs. Community members have opened their homes and offered broad support to ensure visitors feel cared for during the crisis.
The community has also invited Israelis to attend Shabbat meals at the local Jewish center for a symbolic fee, fostering solidarity and connection during a difficult time. Rabbi Raskin emphasized the importance of prayer, faith, and good deeds, expressing hope for security and peace in the Land of Israel and unity among the Jewish people.
He noted that many Israelis are eager to return home despite the security situation, calling it a testament to their deep connection to their country. Rabbi Raskin also expressed gratitude to Hungary’s leadership for helping ensure that Jews and Israelis feel safe, while stressing that the community continues to strengthen its security and vigilance.
