The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting this week to address the escalating situation in Lebanon. The session was requested by France and is supported by European Council members Britain, Greece, Latvia and Denmark.
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said that further council discussions or visits by the Secretary-General would not change conditions on the ground. He stated that the Lebanese government must disarm Hezbollah and implement Security Council Resolution 1701, warning that Israel would act to dismantle Hezbollah if Lebanon does not take action to protect Israeli citizens.
