A frightening incident in the Borough Park neighborhood of Brooklyn ended in relief after a young child who was choking was saved by a quick responding Hatzalah volunteer.
Video from the scene shows a mother running down the street carrying her son as he struggled to breathe, while the father attempted to provide first aid. Within about 30 seconds of the emergency call, a nearby volunteer arrived and immediately intervened.
The volunteer performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully dislodging the object blocking the child’s airway. The rapid response and decisive action likely prevented a tragedy and underscored the vital role of community-based emergency responders.
