Dr. Katrien Vandoorne moved from Belgium to Israel to pursue her doctoral studies at the Weizmann Institute of Science, drawn by both its scientific excellence and the collaborative spirit she encountered. She found the research environment inspiring, with colleagues who were warm, supportive and driven by discovery.

Beyond the laboratory, she was captivated by the Mediterranean climate, local cuisine and vibrant culture. Despite the challenges of living in a country facing conflict, she chose to build both her scientific career and personal life there, motivated by the strong sense of community and opportunity she experienced.
