Dubai-based influencers have criticised British expatriates who left the United Arab Emirates following recent missile and drone attacks, branding them 'ungrateful' and mocking their decision to flee. Content creators including Mitchell Armstrong and Soudi claimed life in the city remains calm and prosperous, arguing that those who stayed have continued to make money while others 'ran around acting like brokies'.
Their comments come as more than 63,000 people have returned to Britain from the region since the conflict escalated. The United Arab Emirates has intercepted hundreds of missiles and drones, and authorities have arrested dozens for allegedly spreading misinformation by filming and sharing locations of attacks. Despite visible damage in parts of Dubai, several influencers have posted similar videos praising the country's leadership and emphasising safety, prompting speculation about coordinated messaging.
At the same time, some wealthy Britons who left the Gulf are temporarily relocating to countries such as Ireland and France to avoid triggering large tax liabilities in the United Kingdom. Tax advisers report a surge in inquiries from expatriates concerned about breaching residency thresholds, with some hoping to rely on exceptional circumstances provisions to limit their tax exposure.
