The United States embassy in Baghdad was struck by a drone attack on Saturday, prompting officials to urge all United States citizens to leave Iraq immediately. The warning cited ongoing threats from Iran-aligned militia groups and the risk of missiles, drones, and rockets across Iraqi airspace. It marked the second attack on the embassy since the start of the recent regional conflict involving Iran.
The strike came shortly after two separate attacks in Baghdad killed three members of Kataeb Hezbollah, including a commander. The group, which is backed by Tehran, described the incident as a targeted assassination attempt. A funeral procession was later held in the capital for the নিহত fighters.
Additional drone attacks were reported elsewhere in Iraq, including near Baghdad airport and at an oil refinery in Erbil, where operations were suspended following a fire. Iraq has increasingly been drawn into escalating hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran, with Iran-aligned armed factions claiming frequent attacks on foreign-linked sites in the country.
