The United States and Israel have been at war with Iran for two weeks, with more than 1,200 civilians reported killed across the country. Among the dead are 168 people, most of them children, who were killed in an attack on a girls' school in Minab. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who had ruled for over four decades, was killed on the first day of the conflict. Iran has also launched missiles at neighbouring countries across the region, widening the impact of the war.
Inside Iran, conditions are increasingly opaque and dangerous. A nationwide internet shutdown affecting around 90 million people has made it extremely difficult for residents to access information about attacks or communicate with loved ones. Iranians abroad are also struggling to reach family members inside the country.
Journalists from the British broadcaster’s Persian service and its monitoring team say verifying information has become a major challenge. Reporting relies on limited sources and fragmented communication, making it harder to build a clear picture of daily life and the humanitarian toll inside Iran.
