Jordan is carefully balancing its response to escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, seeking to defend its sovereignty while preserving its image as a neutral actor. Although it has intercepted Iranian missiles and drones crossing its airspace and targeting its territory, Amman has framed these actions as necessary self-defense rather than alignment with Israel. At the same time, it continues security coordination with Israel and the United States while keeping diplomatic relations with Iran intact.

Recent Iranian strikes have directly affected Jordan, including damage to military infrastructure and injuries caused by falling debris. The Jordanian Armed Forces reported intercepting the vast majority of incoming projectiles aimed at vital sites, underscoring the kingdom’s focus on protecting its territory. Officials stress that Jordanian airspace will not be used as a battlefield, a stance that has helped it avoid significant regional backlash.

However, the kingdom faces internal and external pressures that could shift its position. Iran-backed groups and Islamist factions within Jordan have called for a harder line against Israel, while broader regional uncertainty about Iran’s future adds to Amman’s cautious approach. Concerns over Israeli policies in the West Bank and Jerusalem also weigh heavily, with Jordan signaling that any erosion of the status quo at holy sites or moves undermining a future Palestinian state could seriously strain its peace treaty with Israel.
