Reddit chief executive Steve Huffman said the company plans to increase hiring of recent college graduates, even as parts of the technology sector reduce entry level recruitment amid the rise of artificial intelligence tools. Speaking on a podcast, he said younger professionals are especially skilled at working with artificial intelligence because they learned to program alongside these tools during their studies.
Huffman noted that many seasoned engineers were initially reluctant to rely on automated coding assistants, while younger graduates are more comfortable integrating them into their daily work. He said this makes the new generation more adaptable and efficient in an industry increasingly shaped by automation.
Despite concerns that artificial intelligence could shrink the need for engineers, Huffman said Reddit does not intend to reduce engineering roles due to greater use of these tools. A company spokesperson added that Reddit continues to invest in emerging talent programmes, including internships and graduate schemes in fields such as machine learning, data science and computer science.
Huffman also warned companies against pulling back from campus hiring. He said failing to recruit graduates early could mean losing access to top talent later and paying far more to hire experienced professionals in the future.
