Trump Claims Iran Delivered a 'Very Big Present' in Oil and Gas Twist Amid High-Stakes Talks
President Donald Trump said Iran has delivered what he described as a 'very big present' tied to oil and gas, calling it worth a tremendous amount of money as negotiations continue to end the ongoing conflict. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump declined to provide details but suggested the move was connected to energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global transit route that has faced disruptions.
Trump portrayed the development as a major breakthrough, saying the United States is negotiating with the right people in Iran and that Tehran is eager to reach a deal. He confirmed that planned strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure had been paused for five days following what he called productive discussions, though Iran has publicly denied that talks are taking place.
Senior officials including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and adviser Jared Kushner are said to be involved, with Trump personally engaged. Despite expressing distrust, Trump voiced optimism that an agreement would be reached, even as military operations and additional deployments in the region continue.
Pakistan has offered to host potential talks, while Turkey and Egypt are reportedly facilitating communication. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he sees an opportunity for an agreement aligned with military objectives, as the White House stressed that discussions remain sensitive and ongoing.
