The Israeli military is preparing to deploy its 162nd and 98th Divisions into southern Lebanon to expand ongoing counterterrorism operations against Hezbollah. The move marks a significant escalation in ground activity, as forces push beyond previously targeted areas.
Earlier operations during the fall 2024 invasion focused on destroying the first line of villages to dismantle concealed weapons infrastructure. The new phase aims to target a second line of villages, continuing efforts to uncover and eliminate hidden weapons caches.
Since the conflict began, five divisions have been positioned along the border, with several already advancing into southern Lebanon. The addition of the 162nd and 98th Divisions brings the scale of the current offensive closer to the levels seen during the large-scale invasion in fall 2024, though one division has not yet been deployed deeper into the territory.
