Iran has told intermediaries that any ceasefire agreement with the United States and Israel must also include Lebanon and halt Israeli strikes on Hezbollah, according to six regional sources cited by Reuters. Tehran has linked an end to the broader conflict to stopping attacks on what it describes as resistance groups in the region.
A senior Iranian official said Iran is reviewing a United States proposal to end nearly a month of regional fighting and has not formally rejected it. Sources said Tehran communicated its position to mediators in mid-March, seeking guarantees that Hezbollah would be covered under any deal. One source added that Hezbollah had received Iranian assurances about its inclusion.
The fighting intensified after Hezbollah began launching rockets and missiles toward northern Israel on March 2, following joint Israeli and United States strikes on Iran. Israel’s foreign minister told the United Nations Security Council that Hezbollah has carried out coordinated attacks against Israeli civilians, with more than 3,500 rockets, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles fired from Lebanese territory. A senior United States administration official said disarming Hezbollah and ending Iran’s proxy activities are essential for regional stability.
