Iran's foreign minister has said there are currently no negotiations with the United States, despite reports of a proposed framework to end the war that began on 28 February with American and Israeli air strikes. Iran later expanded the conflict by targeting American allies in the Gulf.
According to Israeli media, the proposed plan would require Iran to commit never to pursue nuclear weapons, dismantle its nuclear facilities, and hand over its enriched uranium to the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations nuclear watchdog, for ongoing monitoring. Iran would also limit the range and quantity of its missile programme and halt funding for regional allies in Lebanon, Gaza and Yemen.
The plan further calls for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as a free maritime corridor after its closure disrupted global oil and gas flows and raised fears of an economic downturn. In exchange, all international sanctions on Iran would be lifted. A spokesperson for President Donald Trump said reports of the full plan were not entirely accurate, while Iran's foreign minister acknowledged that 'some ideas' had been presented to senior leaders and that any formal position would be decided internally.
