India told an all party meeting that it cannot position itself as a broker in the conflict between Iran and the United States, rejecting suggestions that Pakistan had gained diplomatically by offering to mediate. External affairs minister S Jaishankar said Pakistan has historically inserted itself into major global conflicts, but added that his remarks were meant to provide context rather than criticize Islamabad’s current role.
Jaishankar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a conversation with United States President Donald Trump, stressed that the war was harming all sides and called for a swift resolution. He reiterated that India follows a policy of multi alignment to protect its national interests and maintains good relations with Iran, while noting uncertainty over the structure and representation in the ongoing United States-Iran talks.
Opposition leaders raised concerns about India’s diplomatic stance, energy security and recent high level visits, while the government assured them that adequate fuel supplies were available and alternative sources had been secured. The meeting concluded with a broader call for political unity in the face of international challenges.
