Jibril Rajoub, head of the Palestinian Authority soccer association, has called for the Israeli Soccer Association to be expelled from all international soccer institutions. Speaking at a press conference in Al-Bireh, he accused the Israeli association of supporting discrimination in clubs located in what he described as occupied Palestinian lands and of being complicit in actions during the war in Gaza.
Rajoub argued that sporting activities funded by international bodies must not take place in territories claimed by the Palestinian Authority and said the issue would be raised at an upcoming global soccer meeting. Citing legal opinions, he claimed that Israeli clubs operating in these areas violate the sovereignty of the Palestinian soccer association.
He also demanded that Israel provide compensation to rebuild sports facilities damaged in Gaza and to families of Palestinian athletes who were killed. Rajoub, a senior member of the Fatah faction, has previously faced suspension from the world governing body of soccer for incitement and has made controversial statements praising militant figures and calling for action against Israel.
