Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has warned that petrol pumps may be temporarily shut if residents continue panic buying fuel based on rumours. He stressed that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas in the Union Territory and urged people to stop crowding fuel stations unnecessarily.
Abdullah said a recent government review confirmed that supplies remain adequate and that there has been no directive to restrict fuel usage. He expressed concern that misinformation is driving long queues, noting that people appear more willing to believe rumours than official statements.
Authorities have advised citizens to maintain normal consumption patterns, cautioning that panic buying could disrupt supply chains despite sufficient stock. Abdullah is also scheduled to attend a virtual meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to review preparedness in light of the ongoing Middle East situation.
