Arab-Israeli educator Suleiman Suleiman is calling for shared responsibility and deeper cooperation between Arab and Jewish citizens in Israel, arguing that meaningful progress requires joint effort. In an interview, he acknowledged imperfections within Israeli society but stressed that change must come from both communities working together.
Raised in an Arab city in northern Israel, Suleiman said his involvement in a joint Arab-Jewish youth movement and the influence of his educator grandfather shaped his belief that education is the most powerful tool for social change. A year spent in Germany working with refugees further reinforced his view that minority communities can preserve their cultural identity while integrating into national life.
Following the October 7 attacks and the ensuing war, Suleiman described the period as a major test of his values. His organization mobilized hundreds of young volunteers to support affected communities through aid collection and agricultural assistance, reflecting a commitment to civic responsibility during crisis. He also highlighted the challenges faced by Arab youth navigating competing narratives and the impact of social media.
Despite skepticism from parts of both Arab and Jewish societies, Suleiman remains cautiously optimistic. He believes many citizens share a desire for stability and coexistence and is focused on cultivating a new generation of leaders grounded in strong values, clear identity, and constructive engagement.
